Lace is a delicate fabric where different patterns are sewn together to achieve a web-like pattern. Lacemaking was considered an art and meticulously made with silk, linen, gold, and silver. Production was limited, so it was sought after as the garment of choice for the insanely rich and powerful.
Flash forward a few centuries later, the evolution of lace garments have changed thanks to the 1920 flapper’s modern take on this romanticized fabric. Patterns were meshed with different designs and fabrics for a more comfortable fit.
Lace is such a complex piece of fabric. That peek-a-boo material with the “barely there” presentation can easily be sexy, romantic, classy, or even sloppy. However you wear it, its intricate and beautiful pattern has no stereotype.
Here are my favorite looks for lace—both sexy and chic.
WEAR IT WITH A DRESS I love wearing dresses, but do you feel that sometimes that favorite dress can feel a little “over-dressed” for a casual occasion? That’s why I love wearing boots with dresses—it makes you feel dressed down without compromising the chic vibe of your outfit.
SKINNY JEANS Combat boots have that snug, high-top that would flow well with skinny jeans. Combat boots have a little heel (some have a high, chunky heel—my fave), so styling it with skinny jeans can appear to elongate your legs. Layer your outfit with a bomber jacket to complete that tough-girl look.
LEATHER Who says women can’t dress like James Dean? Slip on that leather skirt to enhance your figure, slap on that leather jacket, put on those combat boots, and kick some ass.
WHITE COMBAT BOOTS Yeah, it’s a thing, and it’s a good thing. Actually, it goes well with everything. Wear it with anything. It “brightens” an outfit to a monochromatic/warm theme in this fall season.
STOCKINGS and SOCKS I am obsessed with patterned stockings because it gives me a reason to wear a skirt or shorts during the holiday season. If I’m not wearing stockings, I like to wear tube socks and fold them to show a little. Yeah. It’s a thing.
BOHO CHIC to BOHO BADASS Grab those flowy, maxis, Coachella vibes, and slip on those combat boots.
JOGGERS AND LEGGINGS Athleisue pants, just like skinny jeans, it can help elongate legs, but this gives more of a laid-back tone to your outfit. Layer with a cardigan or blazer to complete the look!
The bomber jacket–an effortless outerwear style. It is a popular transition piece during a time of awkward transition phase from fall-winter when you’re stuck in deciding if you should wear something light or heavy.
The bomber jacket (or varsity/flight jacket) was a military flight jacket that was used in WWI when pilots were required to wear something durable and warm. Now it has become a popular trend for both men and women. Here are some ways to style your bomber jacket.
The popular green bomber jacket goes well with everything–can’t decide what to wear? Throw on the army greens and some avi’s and you’re set! This look can “un-basic” a basic outfit.
POSH AND SPORTY SPICE
There are some days where you want to wear that cute dress, but it looks way too formal for casual wear. Sporty that posh look with a bomber!
MAKE A STATEMENT
Embroidered bomber jackets can add a pop of color to any neutral outfit.
OVERSIZE IT UP
Nothing screams a bold statement like, “I’m cold AF.”
